This article serves as an in-depth resource on the way location services work on your iOS device.
This includes locations which are gathered by the Operating System, the locations Atlas receives and the locations which Atlas records.
At a high level we would like to confirm that the application only ever records data which is required to track company assets. This is in line with our End User License Agreement which is agreed to by each app user - click here to view the EULA.
iOS
Location Services
By default your iOS device will capture and record location information to provide a variety of built in services. These services include Location based advertisements, Location based suggestions, Location based alerts, and recording significant locations.
You can learn more about how iOS gathers location information here - https://support.apple.com/en-au/HT207056
Once your device has determined its current location, this information is then distributed for use by other applications. Atlas requests 'Always' location permission in order to maintain the service but only records locations when nearby company assets.
Locations Activity Notifications
From time to time, iOS may notify a user about the location services usages for each installed application. It is shown as a map popup with a dot displayed for each location the app received during the past 72 hours.
It is important to note the popup shows every location an app receives and does not mean that they were recorded.
The Atlas mobile application receives location updates as part of the mechanism used to scan for nearby Bluetooth devices. Naturally, this scanning must occur with or without tags nearby in order to detect if devices are present.
We take user privacy very seriously. We track assets, not users. Location data is only stored while tags are nearby.
